How to Become a Lord

People are often impressed by titles, and this is true within as well as outside the UK.

One of the oldest and most traditional titles people recognise and are impressed by is that of “Lord” or “Lady.” How does one earn such a prestigious title? Simple! Own a parcel of land in the UK (specifically England or Scotland).

The title of Lord has been in existence since 1066, when William the Conqueror defeated the Viking invaders and bestowed the title upon his numerous followers when they purchased large parcels of land from William himself.

This land has been passed down, generation to generation, in many of England and Scotland’s oldest families. There are, traditionally, 3 ways of becoming a Lord or Lady:

  • 1.

Marry someone who has inherited the parcel of land and gain the title through marriage

  • 2.

Purchase the parcel of land from the current owner and have the title bestowed upon the new landowner

  • 3.

Have the title bestowed upon you through the House of Commons

All three of these methods are perfectly legal, but the second one is extremely expensive. There is a far simpler way, however, to gain the title of Lord or Lady. You may choose to buy one. Click here to learn how to become a lord in Scotland.
